The first fixture in the 2026 MSWGA golfing season is the President’s Select Match against Staffordshire, the 2025 Team Champions. The match was very generously hosted by Trentham Golf Club, where we were treated to a course in wonderful condition, excellent food, and a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. They even provided a sunny day!

As usual, Staffordshire were tough opposition, and with a few new faces in the President’s team who were unfamiliar with the course, the Midlands team were battling against the odds. After a promising start with the first match sharing a half, games 2 and 3 went Staffordshire’s way. Game number 4 was closely fought, with Captain Helen and Suzanne Pretty winning 1 up. Game number 5 provided another win to the Midlands side, leaving the final match as the decider, which was a 3 and 2 victory, resulting in the President’s Select Team taking the honours by 3 1/2 to 2 1/2. All in all a great day.
